Saint's fall to 4-2 after lose to Carroll.......

Posted Sunday, April 20, 2008 by Saint's Reporter

The Saint's lost their second game of the season by dropping a close one to Archbishop Carroll by a score of 6-5.

The Saint's did'nt get much going on the Offensive side of the ball, only registering 5 total hits and leaving 6 baserunners stranded.

The Defense were at their worst so far this year, comitting 6 errors in the field, 3 alone in the bottom of the 3rd which gave Carroll 2 runs and a little bit of hope.

Even after the Saint's comitted the errors, they still were in the game and had a chance to win it in the 7th inning. After the Saint's first batter struke out, (Senior) Dan Behlau hit a single to left field and moved up to 2nd base after (Sophmore) Reno Regalbuto reached base on a fielders choice error by Carroll's Closing Pitcher, Phil Dougherty. With one out (Sophmore) Mark Donato stepped up to the plate and hit a hard ground ball between 1st and 2nd. Carroll's 2nd basemen, Ryan Murtagh made an unbelievable diving play to get Donato out at first. With 2 outs and runners on 2nd & 3rd, (Junior) Joe Armata stepped in and battled threw 8 pitches before hitting a line drive single to right center which scored both Behlau and Regalbuto to make the score 6-5. The score ended that way after (Sophmore) Michael Riverso flew out to left field.

The story of the day was (Junior) Pitcher Nicholas Piscitelli who is now back from injury and pitched a hell of a game. Piscitelli threw 83 pitches through 4 innings while giving up 4 runs (2 earned) on only 2 hits and 5 strikeouts, all which were looking.

With Piscitelli back, it now makes Neumann/Goretti one of the top Pitching Rotations that the Catholic League has to offer. Starting with the Saint's (Sophmore) Mark Donato, (Sophmore) Reno Regalbuto, (Sophmore) Albert Baur and (Sophmore) Michael Riverso. All but one Pitcher will return next year. (Senior) TJ Kinsey, who is one of the toughest competetors on this team, stays healthy will accomplish more wins this season then he had last year after he injured his throwing arm during the middle of the season.

The Saint's open their next In-League series at home on Tuesday, April 22nd at home vs West Catholic.
