Posted Monday, April 14, 2008 by Saint"s Reporter

The Saint's won their 3rd straight series opener for "2008" vs the visiting Archbishop Carroll by a score of 4-3.

The Saint's took an early 1-0 lead in the home half of the 1st inning. (Senior) Lead-off batter Dan Behlau reached base on a walk which is an auto-matic double because of his ability to steal bases (8 for 9 on the year). He then moved up to 3rd on a pass ball and scored on a 6-3 R.B.I. from (Sophmore) Mark Donato.

Top of the 3rd, Carroll's 7 hitter, Seamus Finnegan reached base on an error by the Saint's 2nd basemen and after moving up to 2nd on an infield single by "DH" Phil Dougherty, Finnegan scored on a single by Carroll's Centerfielder/Lead-off batter, Nick Szalejko.

In the top of the 4th inning, after Mark Donato sat down the next 3 batters by form of a 5-3 and 2 strikeouts, the Saint's put up 2 more runs for a little breathing room. (Sophmore) Albert Baur lead off with a walk and took 2nd after (Sophmore) Mike Riverso was hit by a pitch. The bases were then loaded after (Junior) Blaze Cedrone walked and Head Coach Lou Spadiccini decided to bring in Dominic (The Fearless Freshman) Riverso to pitch hit and on the first pitch, Riverso layed the ball in shallow centerfield to score 2 runs and collect 2 R.B.I.'s.

The Saint's put on another run in the bottom of the 5th after (Junior) Joe Armata walked, he was replaced on the bases by (Junior) Anthony Pfettscher who stole second base and scored on a line-drive double by the Fearless Freshman's older brother, (Sophmore) Mike Riverso. That run was the difference maker after Carroll scored 2 run's in the top of the 7th inning.

The Saint's will try to sweep Carroll at their field on Wednesday, April 16th @ 3:45pm.
