Saint's are handed their 2nd straight loss....

Posted Tuesday, March 25, 2008 by Saint's Reporter

Sophmore Pitcher Reno Regalbuto took to the mound to start the game vs Bonner and after striking out the lead off batter, Bonner's 2 hole hitter "B. Callan" reached base on a single hit up the middle. Sophmore Catcher Joe Armata showed Bonner that they won't be stealing on him that day after he gunned out Callan who tried to steal second base. After 2 hit batters & a walk to load the bases, Bonner's 6 hitter, Tomasetti hit a hard shot to Junior shortstop Anthony Pfettscher, who made the play on the ball but errored his throw over 2nd basemen Billy Fulginiti's head which would have ended the inning but instead gave Bonner a 2 run lead after one inning.

Bottom half of the second inning almost started in the same fashion. After Regalbuto had the first batter fly out to right fielder Mike Riverso, the 8 hole hitter reached base on a walk and then stole 2nd base for Bonner's only stolen base of the day. After the next batter hit a blooper into shallow right field which now gave Bonner 1st and 3rd with 1 out, Regalbuto struck out the 10 hole hitter "Van Horn". With 2 out's, the next batter walked to load the bases and Bonner's "Callan" stepped up and hit a triple to left center field to clear the bases and give Bonner a 5-0 lead. Regalbuto then had 3 hole hitter, Benedict hit a pop-up to left field which would have ended the inning but was dropped after Senior Mike O'Hara lost it in the sun and Bonner scored another run to make it 6-0. After throwing 61 pitches through 1 & 2/3 innings, Coach Lou Spadaccini replaced Regalbuto with Junior Pitcher Nick Piscitelli. Bonner's cleanup hitter, McGillian did his job and hit a double to left center to score another run. After another walk, Tomasetti hit a single to right center field which scored McGillian but when he tried to turn it into a double he was thrown out at second by right fielder Mike Riverso to end the inning.

Bottom of the 3rd inning, the defense gave a little support. After Piscitelli walked the lead-off batter, the 8 hitter hit another hard shot to shortstop Anthony Pfettscher who turned it into a 6-4-3 double play w/ 2nd basemen Billy Fulginiti. The next batter hit a line drive to left field which was caught by left fielder Mike Riverso. Over the next 3 innings, Bonner added on an additional 3 runs.

It seamed like right off the bus, the Saint's were stagnet and never got their game together on either side of the ball. On the offensive side of the ball, the Saint's only managed 3 hits and on the defensive side of the ball, hit 3 batter's and walked another 7 batter's while giving up only 8 hits.

Even though the Saint's only managed to finish the game with 3 total hit's, their spirits were lifted a little when back to back Homeruns were hit in the top of the 5th inning by Junior Catcher Joseph Armata and Sophmore 3rd Basemen Albert Baur. Leading off the inning, Armata step up to the plate and went right after the first pitch and put it over the right field fence. Then Baur put a 2-2 pitch deep over the centerfield fence for his first official High School Homerun.

Neumann's next game in tommorrow, 3:45pm @ 26th & Moore against Roman Catholic.
