Saints suffer first loss......

Neumann / Goretti Varsity suffered their first loss of the season to a tuff Haverford H.S. team. The Saints took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. Lead off batter (Senior) Dan Behlau walked and moved up on a pass ball. (Sophmore) Mark Donato knocked in Behlau on a sharply hit ball right back up the middle. (Junior) John Masciotro who pitch-ran for Donato moved up to 3rd base w/ 2 pass balls and after walks by (Junior) Joseph Armata and (Senior) Aggie Osano, Masciotro scored on a hard hit ball by (Junior) Billy Fulginiti which was errored by Haverford's shortstop, Will Katzka.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Haverford got 1 one run back. Haverford's Ben Ware hit a sharply hit single up the middle. After a stolen base, Ben Ware scored on a single to right field by Matt Baureis.

Top of the 5th inning, the Saints picked up another run after (Sophmore) Al Baur walked and (Junior) Blaze Cedrone entered the game as a pitch runner and stole 2nd base. Cedrone then scored on a single to right field by (Sophmore) Reno Regalbuto.

The Saints were up 3-1 entering the 6th inning. Bottom half of the 6th, the Saints made a couple of costly errors that allowed Haverford to tie the game. Haverford's Ben Ware again reached base on an error by (Senior) Aggie Osano and after moving up to 2nd on a stolen base he scored on a single by Matt Baureis. After Baureis stole his second base of the game, he scored on a single from a pitch-hitter.

With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom half of the 7th inning, (Sophmore) Albert Baur, struck out the lead off batter and then gave up a single to Will Katzka who moved up on yet another stolen base. After Baur made Haverford's three hole hitter, Scott Barrett, fly out to left field and now with two out's, Haverford's four hitter, Ben Ware who accounted for 3 of Haverford's 5 run's stepped up to the plate and hit a walk off Homerun over the Centerfield fence to end the game 5-3.

The Saints could'nt get much going offensively after the 1st inning and lost a close game. Sophmore Mark Donato went 2 for 3 w/ and RBI.

On the Defensive side of the ball, (Sophmore) Mark Donato pitched 5 innings while only giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk. Donato also struck out 8 batters.

The Saint's play three more games this week before their divisional games start on Monday, March 31st at 26th & Moore.
